As of the Queen’s University class in March, 2018, we have now over 5,200 participants through this program in some 25 years. This author joined the program as an independent consultant in 2014 after a longstanding relationship with the Program Founders, Mr. Decker and Mr. John Tribe. Like many others who have attended the program over the years, once moving up into a management role (thanks at least in part to said attendance) and having kept Jim and John as contacts (and friends!), then it becomes natural to ring them up and use their services in current efforts to improve the operation. In my case, I hired them three separate times at different companies. At one company we used the Program at 8 different mines for over 600 Supervisors and Managers, and I became a facilitator at this time. Joining the Program after this lengthy and productive relationship was a real easy decision…
Jim Decker and John Tribe really created something special, in my humble opinion, when they did this. Of course it has changed, as all things will, but it still fills the originally identified need to help Supervisors and Managers with Leadership Skills, much of which they learn through some personal trial and error process. And we find on a regular basis that operations today need Supervisor Development as much as ever, and even more so given the accelerating changes people face in their workplaces. So, Thanks, and Well Done Jim and John!!
The Program continues to evolve and grow, and being part of that is quite exciting for me. There’s quite a following of people through the industry who have been through the program and have helped shape it through time, and here’s a thanks to all those folks! I will reach out to some of them over the next little while and ask them if they would like to contribute a short Blog for this section, and I’ll reach out to Alumni as well for the same purpose, as well as new teams who use the Program for their improvement efforts.
More to come…
